Amarok Growl Notification for OS X

Continuing in my experiments with integrating Amarok with OS X so I can trash iTunes, I wanted a nice OSD of the different Amarok events.

Amarok can notify you when a track is changed, or you pause, stop or quit the application and it’s nice to know what track you are listening to.

Growl is a flexible notification system that you can easily customise and which work with many applications now, it’s therefore a nice framework to integrate with Amarok and will offer a seamless integration between this X11 application [1] and OS X.

It’s quite simple to install [2]:

  1. install Growl
  2. download this package:
    GZ - 1.4 kb
    amarok_growl installation package
    831 download(s) since 25 July 2007
  1. in Amarok, go to the script manager under the tools menu
  2. click on Install script and select the package you just downloaded
  3. now click on run.

By default, Growl will only show the track change event. But you can go in Growl preference pane and select the different events you want to see.

notes

[1] Amarok already offers an OSD, but it’s not working properly under OS X because of it’s X11 implementation.

[2] see Control (keyboard, remote) for Amarok on OSX for details on how to install Amarok.
