I hadn’t tested iEatBrainz for a few month so I am not sure when this has happened but it seems that the servers are finally down, as MusicBrainz had announced a long time ago.

I am therefore not distributing the build for iEatBrainz anymore. If there is an interest in developping to get the new tagger compatible with Mac, I recommend you contact the Picard team and help them make it compatible with the Apple platform.

IEatBrainz development seems to be discontinued but it’s developer had the great idea to release the sources on SourceForge. The version available around for download has never worked properly on my Intel based macbook and no one seemed to be ready to distribute a universal build.

Update Jay Tuley just contacted me to explain why a universal build had never been released. Basically, the TRM fingerprinting system provided by MusicBrainz will be switched off in the upcoming weeks/days. After that, even if you can run IEatBrainz, it won’t find any result as the MusicBrainz servers won’t be answering the requests.

This had been announced last october and is not the fault of the developer of IEatBrainz. I will leave the package up for a while if you want to try your luck. Once the servers will be switched off, the package will be removed and we will have to wait on a willing developer to take on the change required to support the new MusicBrainz interfaces.

This sounds like a fantastic program, but I’ve been unable to use it. My main iTunes library is on an external hard drive — is there a way to choose the library file that iEatBrainz uses?

  Anyway, I checked, it looks like it uses the default system to get where your iTunes library is, if it can’t find one under the default path ( /Music/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml. Do you have two different libraries?

    Just put an alias into /Music/iTunes/ that leads to your library.

    Hello, This is a kind of related issue (updating library). I know yo are not providing support, so you may not care:-)
    
    I just wanted to make you aware of the fact that it seems like your build stopped working when the last round of updates came out from apple... Don’t know if it is related to leopard updates or itunes, but the program was working just fine, and after doing updates and restarting, it freezes when trying to update the itunes library with the matched songs... I’m currently running 10.5.2 for leopard and 7.6.1 for itunes. In my setup I also have the itunes music folder on an external (just music, not the library file) but it was working just fine before the updates. Now it crashes every time I say update all matched songs....
    
    If you ever get a chance to look at that it would be awesome, as the musicbrainz server is still up and I would love to continue using your app.

        I just updated 1,000+ songs in my iTunes 7.6.1 with OS X Leopard 10.5.2 and had no issues with updating files, etc. The only issue was that when it hit some podcasts from Diggnation it crashed, all I had to do was reopen the program and it asked to skip which it worked and continued flawlessly. I also tried it on OS X Leopard Server and also did not have any issues. For the prior, try running disk utility and make sure your permissions are correct and see what happens again after that when running the program.

Firstly, thank you for the universal build.

It seems to still work for me, so the servers apparently did not shut down at least for good. I find iEatBrainz really slow, it is accessing the disk all the time. Could you make your changes to the project public so I could try to see if I can fix that.

  The servers seems still up, but slow and with not much new stuff on it, and Picard project seems a bit slow to get ported to OS X.
  
  All the modifications were already made in the sources of iEatBrainz, I did not do anything there, so if you get it, then it should be ok. What I actually did was build the thing manually as the XCode build seems broken, i can’t really distribute this hack.
  
  Basically, you have to compile the libraries as external projects, then add them as Frameworks to the main XCode project.
  
  It would be cool to see improvements on this version of iEatBrainz, but there is no real point in investing time there as the servers are not guaranteed

    Thanks for the tips about how to build. It builds now for me (with lots of warnings) and seems to work.
    
    I also made it a considerably faster when removing several files from the matching list. I moved [self updateStatusIcons] out of the -removeiTunesMatching to -removeiTunesMatchings after the loop. I can really feel the difference.

iTunes Library Location

HI mate - Great program

I find the connection to the server fine and I have no troubles accessing MusicBrainz... at least for the time being.... But has anyone else encountered issues when trying to update your iTunes with the matched songs ?? I get an error message - APPLE SCRIPT ERROR Can’t make « class pDID » of item 1 of "Error finding iTunes Track" into type string. (-1700)

Judging some of the stuff discussed above - I am trying to punch well above my weight.... Can anyone help ?

      I’ve tried to compile again the applescritp wich is on the source code (in sourceforge) but gives me an error...
      
      Anyone has tried ’cos I think the failure is there...in the applescript

    Updating to itunes 8 also fixed the AppleScript error message for me.
